Statement

I am a scientist and artist whose influences include cartography, statistics, erector sets, and Dr. Seuss. My work is a combination of eclectic architecture, complex machinery, and outlandish arrangements that push the limits of balance, proportion, and symmetry. The resulting cloth constructions explore surprising connections, finding resolutions with delight and humor. I use machine-piecing to create my work from hand-dyed cotton and use a long-arm machine to quilt straight lines. My quiltmaking draws on meditations between science and aesthetics and communicates my sense of joy and wonder to the world.
